As part of Future Institute’s partnernship with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), we reached out to our 2020 graduates who plan on attending UIC in the fall to see who would be interested in participating in their Latino Health Science Enrichment Program through the Hispanic Center of Excellence (LaHSEP). Currently, there are 7 CMSA graduates who applied to the program and 5 graduates from HSA McKinley Park.
LaHSEP is a six week enrichment program for first year incoming undergraduates planning to attend UIC in the fall. The program is online and students engage in pre-health workshops and develop chemistry, math, and English skills. Participants will virtually meet with former LaHSEP participants who are now medical students. The program also introduces them to transitional resources on campus. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a $600.00 stipend.
Future Institute strongly supports our students and partners in programs and events that align with our mission and vision. According to our data, over 40% of Concept graduates in the past 5 years who are participating in Future Institute’s programs are interested in pursuing a medical or health-related career field, which makes LaHSEP an excellent stepping stone for our graduates going to UIC.
