Starting college may feel overwhelming. With new surroundings, instructors and friends, it’s easy to feel lost the first few weeks. Here’s a few things you can do to quickly adjust to your new college lifestyle!
Create a schedule – With so much free time, creating a schedule can help you plan out when major assignments are due, when to start studying for your exams, and when you need to make some time for yourself.
Get involved – Most campus host an “involvement fair” at the beginning of the school year which features the on-campus student organizations. Attending these fairs and getting involved with clubs will help you feel a sense of belonging and you’ll get to meet new friends!
Visit your professors’ office hours – Whether you need some help on an assignment or just want to talk to someone, plenty of professors are happy to talk with their students about things beyond the world of academia.
Call your parents/friends – It’s normal to miss your friends and family, so make sure you call them and check in. They probably miss you too!
Explore your new city – There’s no better way to adjust to your new home than to explore it. Go check out any major landmarks or eat at some of the local restaurants. Maybe you’ll even become a regular there over the next few years!
College doesn’t last forever, so make sure to make the most of this opportunity. Before you know it, you’ll be helping new students adjust to campus life.
