Event Planning/Communications Intern for World Future Forum

Future Institute has an opportunity for you to apply your skills in a real world capacity by implementing communication skills and planning the second biennial World Future Forum (, an international educational conference. We are looking for motivated individuals with a passion for event planning, social media, public relations, and communications. Sound like you? If yes, then we want your help!

Future Institute’s work environment is an office setting and the hours are flexible. Internship length is dependent on school schedule for the right applicant and there is a possibility for growth and long-term opportunities. We prefer applicants to be local to the West/Northwest Chicagoland area or at least Chicagoland vicinity since in-office work is required.

This unpaid internship is a perfect opportunity to acquire in-office marketing team experience too! You will be interacting with the communications, creative, marketing, and academic staff for a well-rounded internship experience. This is a perfect opportunity to be part of something big!

Internship Responsibilities:
– Coordinate and monitor event logistics, timelines and schedules for the conference
– Develop and execute marketing strategies to publicize the event
– Communicate with and invite speakers, presenters, sponsors and attendees
– Plan layout and set up of the plenary and breakout sessions at the venue
– Ensure all deadlines are met
– Reach out and secure sponsorship
– Negotiate and book catering for the conference
– Design social media graphics and design digital newsletters
– Manage social media, event website and registration/abstract submission portal
– Prepare text for social media posts and invitation letters
– Supervise all correspondence and event email
– Provide monthly updates on the event
– Report to previous event coordinator
– Other tasks as assigned

Education Requirements:
– College student or graduate
– Pursuing/obtained a college degree in Communications, Event Planning, Marketing, English, or Journalism (AD/PR); however, other majors with a passion for communications and event planning will be considered

Skills/Competencies Requirements:
– Strong organizational, logistical, and analytical skills and interest
– Strong time management skills
– Basic marketing knowledge of: SEO, Social Media campaigns, Google AdWords, and Website Analytics
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive
– Strong communication skills, including phone and email as well as quick responsiveness
– Strong writing skills and presentation skills
– Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
– Attention to detail
– Proactive mentality
– Desire to ‘own’ the work and lead tasks
– Flexible and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously
– Ability to work independently and in a team
– Ability to take direction
– Energetic and positive attitude

Bonus Skills (not required):
– Excitement to support and grow nonprofit programs
– Interest in education
– Experience with WordPress
– Design experience on Canva
