Samantha Garcia

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

My name is Samantha Garcia, but I go by Sammy. I’m currently a sophomore in the Division of General Studies but I am going into Social Work and will minor in Latina/o Studies. I am one of the liasons for the UIUC campus this year and I really look forward to working with each of you and getting to know you! I am a good resource to use on campus if you need help with anything, so please do not hesitate to reach out. If I don’t know the answer to your question, I will ask everyone that I know in order to help to the best of my ability. And trust me, I know a lot of people that know even more people. I am currently employed at the University of Illinois Foundation, which is a great job (they pay above Champaign’s minimum wage) because of the opportunities they offer students to grow and develop as leaders, they are always hiring. I am also a proud sxster of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc. My position this year is co-cultural awareness chair, so I always have an idea of cultural events being held on campus. One of my biggest goals as a first generation Mexican-American womxn on campus is to ensure that every first generation / student of color knows about all of the resources on campus that are here to help ease our transitions into a large campus and help us feel at home. I am here to help with anything so please feel free to reach out to me whenever!
